IAM UNION ‘Becomes The First Labor Union Recognized’ As A National Veterans Service Organization

IAM Becomes First Union Recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has made history by becoming the first labor union to be officially recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
This designation honors IAM’s ongoing commitment to supporting its Veteran Members nationwide through the IAM Veterans Services Program, which provides guidance, advocacy, and hands-on assistance for Veterans navigating the transition from military to civilian life.
Expanding Support for IAM Veterans
With official VSO recognition, IAM will now have access to additional VA resources to strengthen its ability to:
-
Assist Members with benefit and disability claims
-
Advocate for healthcare and educational opportunities
-
Push for legislative changes supporting Veterans and their families
-
Expand outreach to ensure every IAM Veteran gets the support they deserve
“This recognition means we can grow our organization and set a new standard of care for all IAM Veterans,” said Richard Evans, IAM Veterans Services Coordinator. “It’s a testament to our hard work, dedication, and advocacy on behalf of those who have served in our military. It shows that our organization is equipped with the tools, knowledge, and resources to effectively help Veterans navigate the challenges they face after service.”
A Milestone for Labor and Veterans Alike
This landmark recognition not only strengthens IAM’s ability to assist its Members but also highlights the vital role of labor unions in advocating for America’s Veterans. As a VSO, the IAM can now offer direct support and representation before the VA, further ensuring that Veteran Members receive the care, benefits, and respect they have earned.
